Merostachys
Municipio Porto Seguro: Forested slopes of morro on Fazenda
Carvalho, ca. 26 km west of town of Monte Pascoal, at end
of road that intersects with BR 101 in Monte Pascoal. Large
clumps of bamboo common on upper slopes of the morro to the
summit, from 380m to l*60m elev., about 25-30 culms in the
clump, these 15-l6m tall, 2.3-2.6cm diam., with up to 130
branches per node and with fine, delicate foliage. Most
culms smooth, but some a bit rough. Number of leaves per
leaf complement varies, as does the size of the clump and
of the culms, perhaps indicating a young population.
