Merostachys BAHIA, BRAZIL Mun. de Andarai, Serra do Sincorá, old road Mucugé-Itaeté, 27 km SE of Andarai. Elev. 800 m. In a dense forest of transition type on lower slopes of mountain, not far from river. Robust Merostachys forming dense, large clumps mixed with the trees. Plants quite erect, bending only high up and arching over trees, over 12 m high. Culms 1.5-2 cm diam., with thick walls, surface smooth on lower parts of plant, asperous on upper branches, green when young, a little yellow at maturity. Internodes long, 62-78 cm. Branch complement of many (up to 9^) thick branches. Culm leaves velvet hirsute, blade reflexed. Foliage leaves with oral setae dark copper color. 13 May 1976 Clcofé E. Calderón, Talmón S.
