Merostachys
BAHIA, BRAZIL
Municipio Una: 19 km from Una on road to Santa Luzia do
Salobro. Elev. 1^5m. Abundant bamboo occurring as clumps
of 50-75 closely placed thin-walled culms, elliptic in
cross section, 15-l8m tall, erect with slender pendulous
tips. Culm leaves falling entire: sheath thickened into
a purplish-black ring below, otherwise golden with narrow
green stripes and infused with purple toward the summit,
becoming dark brown; blade broad, green, reflexed, persis-
tent, brittle when mature.
