Merostachys
Municipio Porto Seguro: Parque Nacional Monte Pascoai,
located ik km east of BR 101 at a point 13 km north of Ita-
marajiu Primary forest with very tall trees. Elev. 110m.
Locally common "bamboo climbing 3 or k meters into the trees
the clumps consisting of ca. 20 thin-walled scabrous culms
striated dark and light green. Culm leaves: sheaths light
green, becoming stramineous, shiny brown inside, falling
at time of branching; blade green, horizontal, becoming
reflexed, caducous. Branch complements: 23, 26, 33 bran-
ches in those counted. This bamboo grows within the undis-
turbed dense forest, climbing over other vegetation, and
is the most graceful and beautiful species of the genus
