This isotype of *Guembelia* obtusata Müll. Hal. & Hampe (Linnaea 26:
497, 1855) is identical with *G. grisea* Cardot (1906), as are other
isotypes (e.g. H). Although the epithet obtusata is older, it must be
discarded to maintain nomenclatural stability.
The specimen in Hampe's herbarium (BM), the most suitable
specimen for *G. obtusata* lectotypification, is a mixture of *G. pulvinata*
(Hedw.) Sm. and *G. grisea*. In the protologue, the description refers
to *G. pulvinata* whereas discussion applies to *G. grisea*.
The *G. pulvinata* part in BM isotype of *Guembelia* obtusata is
selected as lectotype of the name, and thus, *G. obtusata* became a
synonym of *G. pulvinata* (Hedw.) Sm.
