Note: Author as Sull. with O. speciosum? (fide EGB) There is a note from Leo F. Koch April 1951 on this page that states: Californian specimens often have both capsules with papillose teeth or smooth teeth. If this is a genetic character in O. rupestre it does not seem to me to warrant a distinct species. Perhaps this should be O. rupestre var. texanum.Orthotrichum rupestre Schleich. ex Schwägr.
