Description
Pileus 3-8.5 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, subviscid to viscid when wet, otherwise dry, matted to finely matted or finely subtomentose, pale red to dark red, sometimes pale yellow to yellow where covered or unexposed to light. Flesh pale yellow, cyanescent, with mild odor and taste. Hymenophore adnexed to depressed, with yellow cyanescent tubes; pores not exactly concolorous but with a hint of red, cyanescent. Stipe 4-9 cm long, 1.5-2.5 cm broad, equal to subclavate or sometimes clavate, dry, pale yellow to yellow at apex, pale pink to pale orange downward, bright yellow at and just above base, cyanescent, subpruinose or very finely and obscurely reticulate at apex only; the reticulum and pruina concolorous with ground color; interior pale yellow to yellow above, bright lemon to chrome yellow toward base, cyanescent above only or erratically and sporadically toward base, not staining blue in the base. Compare Halling 8977 which has more (and deeper) red colors, a more obvious reticulum in some, and more obvious red pigment on the pores.
