Distribution
NEW YORK BOTANtCAL GARDEN 01006201 vo,> BOTANICAL pARDt** FLORA OF BRAZIL State of Mato Grosso Rubiaceae Tocoyena cUA, Sao Lucas, Nobres, Depression of the Rio Paraguay, 120 km N of Cuiaba, 60 km E of Nobres, Fazenda Sao Lucas . Partly limited on the east by the Rio Cuiaba. The fazenda is at its north side surrounded by the Serra de Santa Rita, Morro Gelado and Serra Azul. Lat. 14°36t)"S. Long. 55°50tT'W. The entrophic red podsoils along the Rio Cuiaba which carried forest are used for agriculture (rice, cotton). Some emerged calcareous rocks covered and surrounded by a semideciduous forest mixed with cerradao (e.g. Morro da Onca) are interspersed. The yellowish podsoils are covered by cerradao, and the dystrophic soils on hills carry an open, low cerrado (campo cerrado). The soil under this cerrado is often stony, and along a small river it is built up by laminated loamy layers. The parts of the fazenda with the more entrophic soil are transformed successively in pastures for cattle grazing by planting grasses, while many of the open cerrados are used as "natural pastures" only. This stand: Campo cerrado near Usina, along the creek of the water reservoir, about 100 m downstream. Growing in patches, decumbent shrub with flowers in upright position. Flower buds yellowish-white, opening at 5.30 pm. Recently opened flowers white.
