  • Habitat

    Open forest on steep slopes of small hill. Clayey orange soil resulting from weathered schist. Back slope of first hill along picada heading inland. Musaceae, Palmae, Heliconiaceae and Marantaceae dominant. Main forest canopy 15-20 m with some emergents (e.g. Parkia) to 40 m. Height of vegetation decreases on upper slopes and hill tops.

  • Description

    Tree to 25 m, DBH 25 cm, first branching at 10 m from ground. Bark greyish-white with large green lichen patches and numerous 'morse-code' lenticels. Outer slash orangish, inner slash yellow. Leaves leathery, deep bottle green above, yellowish green below. Fruit thick and tough, pale brown with a covering of small warts.
