Forming indefinite, pulvinate, tomentose, black expansions, .2- .8 mm. high, basal filaments nearly prostrate, .014- .016 mm. in diameter, sheath about .002 mm. thick, geminate branches numerous, erect, soon dividing into repeatedly tolypothricoidal, tortuous, corymbose branch- lets, upper filaments .012-.014 mm. in diameter, trichomes gradually diminishing to .005-.006 mm. in diameter, with sheaths increasing to .005 mm. in thickness, lamellate with diverging lamellae, apex obtuse. Cells narrowly discoidal below, becoming cuboidal and often torulose above; heterocysts .011-,012 by .006-.007 mm., breadth greater than the length. Common, forming dark velvety patches on the bark of Juniperus Bermudiana. In habit resembling S.
