Phycothsca Bareali-Amerioana. Collins, Holden, and Satchell.

752. Ghrootfiace (?) cryptaram n. sp.

On calcareous rocks in caves by the seashore, Bermuda, Jan., 1900.

W. G. FARLOW.

Forming irregular, gelatinous, widely expanded masses of a pale
blue-green or dirty yellow color; cells oblong or rod-shaped, .003 x
.0015 mm., blue-green, without definitely shaped chromatophore; di-
vision usually in one, occasionally in two directions; cell-walls gela-
tinous, colorless, becoming lamellate and developing below into
densely branching Urococcus-like stalks, .025- .05 mm. long, by .007-
.009 mm. broad.

The blue-green colored cell contents separate this alga from
Urococcus which it resembles in the stalk-like cell wall. There appears
to be no definite chromatophore but that point needs further examina-
tion of the living material. The alga is nearly related to Chroothece
Richteriana Hansgirg, in which there is a well developed blue-green
chromatophore, but the cells are much smaller and the stalks are much
branched.
