  Árbol siempre verde que puede medir 25 de alto y 3 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Tiene hojas lanceoladas de bordes serrados, flores amarillo brillante tubulares grandes vistosas y vainas de color castaño grandes angostas. La infusión de la corteza y flores se ha usado en remedios caseros contra la hipoglucemia y trastornos gastrointestinales, las raíces como diurético y vermífugo. Los viveros del Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales propagan esta especie con fines de ornato y reforestación. Crece en las laderas de las colinas del sur de Puerto Rico y la Isla de Vieques. Está ampliamente distribuido en América Tropical, las Antillas y Florida. Evergreen tree that can measure twenty-five feet at height and three inches of diameter in the trunk. It has lance shaped leaves with serrated edges, yellow shining tubular attractive flowers, and brown color large narrow pods. The infusion of crust and flowers has been used in homemade remedies against hypoglycemia and gastrointestinal maladies, and the roots like diuretic and to combat parasites. Puerto Rico's Conservation Trust and Department of Natural and Environmental Resources propagate this species for ornate and reforestation. It grows in slopes of hills of the South of Puerto Rico and Vieques. It is distributed widely in Tropical America, the Antilles, and Florida.
