  Bejuco leñoso que se fija sobre otras plantas de los bosques puertorriqueños extendiéndose hasta 30 pies. Se caracteriza por tener dos tipos de ramas. Las ramas estériles, cuyas raíces adventicias le permiten adherirse a los troncos y ramas, tienen hojas acorazonadas y redondeadas. Las fértiles, que surgen de las estériles, cuelgan libremente y son gruesas con hojas nuevas de color rojizo y flores en racimos. El bejuco es autóctono de los bosques húmedos de Puerto Rico. Woody reed that grows over other plants in Puerto Rico's forests. It can grow to thirty feet in length. It is characterized for two types of branches. Its sterile branches have heart shaped round leaves and adventitious roots allow it to adhere to the trunks of trees. The fertile branches, which emerge from the sterile, hang freely with new red leaves and flowers in a raceme. The reed is autochthonous of Puerto Rico's humid forests.
