  Arbusto siempre verde de 10 a 15 pies de alto y 4 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por copa abierta extendida, hojas ásperas con el borde virado hacia abajo, flores tubulares vellosas de color blanco a castaño y frutos rojos redondeados aterciopelados. La madera se ha usado para estacas y combustible. Crece en sitios abiertos, desmontes, espesuras de las costas, zona caliza húmeda y base de las montañas de Puerto Rico y la Isla de Vieques. Está distribuido en las Antillas y Florida. Evergreen shrub of 10 or fifteen feet of height and 4 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is characterized by the extended open canopy; the rough leaves with the edge bent downwards, velvety villous tubular flowers of white to chestnut color, and round red fruits. The wood has been used for stakes and fuel. It grows in open areas, clearings, and thicknesses of the coasts, the humid calcareous zone, and at the base of mountains of Puerto Rico and the Island of Vieques. It is distributed in the Antilles and Florida.
