  Árbol siempre verde de 20 pies de alto y 3 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por los nudos recrecidos en las ramitas, flores de tubos angostos rojizos o rosados con lóbulos blancos en racimos laterales y bayas redondeadas rojas o rosadas. La madera se usa para combustible. Es común en bosques de la zona caliza húmeda y base de las montañas de Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en las Antillas y norte de América del Sur. Evergreen tree of 20 feet of height and 3 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is characterized by the overgrown knots in the small branches, the flowers of narrow, reddish or pink tubes with white lobes in lateral racemes, and round red or pink berries. The wood is used for fuel. It is common in the forests of the humid calcareous zone and at the base of mountains of Puerto Rico. It is distributed in the Antilles and North of South America.
