  Arbusto siempre verde de 15 a 20 pies de altura y 3 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. A veces se comporta como una trepadora. Posee hojas elípticas verde mate, flores tubulares en la base de las hojas y frutos carnosos redondeados lustrosos negro purpúreo. Es común en bosques bajos y altos de Luquillo, enanos de las montañas, Cordillera Central y zona caliza húmeda de Puerto Rico. Está distribuido en La Española. Evergreen shrub of 15 to 20 feet of height and 3 inches of diameter in the trunk. It sometimes behaves like a climbing reed. It has elliptical green matte leaves, tubular flowers at the base of the leaves, and shiny mulberry black fleshy round fruits. It is common in the low and high forests of Luquillo, the humid calcareous Central Mountain range and in the dwarfed forests of the mountains of Puerto Rico. It is distributed in Hispaniola.
