  Árbol con ramas como una trepadora de 30 pies de alto y una pulgada de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por tener ramitas esbeltas con espinas curvas en los nudos, hojas elípticas pareadas, flores blancas en tubos estrechos apiñadas y frutos jugosos negruzcos. Se ha utilizado como planta para hacer cercas vivas. Es importante como planta hospedera de los insectos hemípteros de la Isla. Se encuentra en malezas, bosques costeros y áreas de marea cerca del nivel del mar en Puerto Rico y las Islas de Icacos, Culebra y Vieques. Está distribuido en las Antillas, Bahamas, México y norte de América del Sur. Tree with branches like a climbing reed, which entangles on the trees to 30 feet of height and one inch of diameter in the trunk. It is distinguished by small svelte branches with curved thorns in each knot, twin elliptical leaves, white flowers in a narrow tube clustered together, and blackish juicy fruits. It has been used to make hedges. It is important as it host of the homopterous insects of Island. It can be observed in thickets, coastal forests and tidal areas close to sea level in Puerto Rico and the Islands of Icacos, Culebra, and Vieques. It is distributed in the Antilles, Bahamas, Mexico, and the North of South America.
