  Árbol siempre verde de 15 pies de altura y 6 pulgadas de diámetro en el tronco. Se distingue por copa frondosa redondeada, hojas en forma de cuchara gruesas tiesas carnosas con los bordes virados hacia abajo, flores fragantes pequeñas blancas en forma de campana y bayas redondas rojo anaranjado. La corteza se ha utilizado contra los dolores de muelas. Esta especie podría ser utilizada como ornamental. Se encuentra en los bosques costaneros de Puerto Rico y las Islas de Mona, Icacos, Palominos, Vieques y Culebra. Está distribuido en las Antillas. Evergreen tree of 15 feet of height and 6 inches of diameter in the trunk. It is distinguished by the round leafy canopy, fleshy spoon shaped stiff leaves with the edges bent downwards, fragrant small white bell shaped flowers, and round red orange berries. The crust has been used against toothaches. This species could be used like an ornamental. It can be observed in the coastal forests of Puerto Rico and the Islands of Mona, Icacos, Palominos, Vieques, and Culebra. It is distributed in the Antilles.
