  Planta anual que puede crecer tres pies de alto de flores amarillas y frutos en vainas. Las semillas tostadas de esta planta se han usado para sustituir al café. La infusión de la raíz ha servido para controlar los dolores de la menstruación y condiciones espasmódicas, las hojas machacadas para los tumores e inflamaciones musculares. Se encuentra en estado silvestre en terrenos bajo cultivo, huertos caseros y patios. Está distribuida en las Islas Vírgenes, América Tropical y el Viejo Mundo. Annual plant that can grow three feet of height with yellow flowers and fruits in pods. The roasted seeds have been used to replace coffee. The infusion of the root has been used to control menstrual pains and spasmodic conditions and of its crushed leaves for the control of tumors and muscular inflammations. It can be found wild under home orchards, patios, and cultivated lands. It is distributed in the Virgin Islands, Tropical America, and the Old World.
