• Description

  Hypanhium and ovary of the actinomorphic-flowered Gustavia johnclarki based on J. L. Clark 10855 from Reserva Ecológica Mache-Chindul, Esmeraldas, Ecuador. Note that there is a suture that marks the division between the hypanthium and the ovary of neotropical Lecythidaceae (it is difficult to see on the right side of the image). The flowers of neotropical Lecythidaceae are epigynous (=inferior) but sometimes the ovaries appear to be half-inferior.
