Description
Close-up of the anthers of Gustavia augusta based on Mori et al. 27390 from coastal French Guiana. The anthers are poricidal and there is a filament stalk between the anthers and the rest of the filament but these features are not easily seen in this image. Gustavia is the only genus of neotrpical Lecythidaceae with poricidal anther dehiscence. The yellow anthers and support of the ovary are thought to be pollen guides, the rewards the bee pollinators seek when they visit the flowers.
