Description
Tufts of trichomes in the axils of the secondary veins and midrib of Quercus rubra based on S. A. Mori & M. Rothman 27800 from the Westchester Wilderness Walk/Zofnass Family Preserve, Westchester County, New York. Axillary pubescent is characteristic of Q. velutina. We have called this tree Q. rubra because the fruits have the berret cup, the leaves are more chartaceous , and the upper part of the stem and lower part of the petioles are glabrous.
