• Description

  Fruit of Duchesnia indica based on Mori et al. 27804 from the Westchester Wilderness Walk of the Westchester Land Trust, Westchester Co., New York. Note how the achenes bulge from the surface of this aggregate fruit. This species is not a wild strawberry and does not produce an edible fruit because the receptacle does not make up a fleshy part of the fruit.
