    Species Description - Branched from the base, 1–3 dm; lvs linear to narrowly oblanceolate, 1–2 cm; cymes dichotomous, often congested, bearing a fl at each fork; bracteal lvs resembling the cauline and scarcely smaller; cor 3 mm; fr oval, 2–3 mm; 2n=22. Dry sandy soil and waste places; Del. to Fla., Tex., and Mex., n. in the interior to Ky. and Mo. and s. Ill., and occasionally on ballast near eastern cities. June–Sept.
