    Species Description - Annual 2–6 dm, branched above; lvs lanceolate to elliptic or ovate, 3–6 cm, the lower petioled, the upper sessile; cymes eventually 3–5 cm; bracteal lvs small, resembling the sep; cor and fr each 3 mm; 2n=20. Moist or wet soil, chiefly on the coastal plain; se. Va. to Fla., Ark., Mex., W.I., and n. S. Amer. (Mitreola petiolata)
