Species Description - Erect colonial shrub to 1 m, the stems armed with numerous slender, straight prickles mixed with stiff bristles; lfls 7–11, subglabrous, 0.5–1.5(–2) × 0.5–1 cm; fls solitary at the branch-tips, bractless; pedicel glabrous; hypanthium wide-mouthed, glabrous; pet 1–2(–2.5) cm, white or ochroleucous (sometimes more yellowish at base), seldom pink; hips purplish-black;2n=28. Native of Eurasia, occasionally escaped from cult. (R. spinosissima, in part)
