Type
The type specimen of Panicum divergens consists of two species. One is P. glutinosum, from which the major part of the description is drawn. The other appears to be P. stigmosum, from which the description of the spikelet is drawn.

Description - Culms 1 to 2 meters tall from a decumbent base; blades elongate, 1.5 to 2.5 cm. wide ; panicle 15 to 30 cm. long, open, the spikelets viscid, 3 mm. long, the first glume about as long as the second.
