    Description - Perennial, with rhizomes; leaves mostly basal, erect; flowering culms erect, to about 20 inches tall. Associated with Paspalum cartilagineum, Aliscanthus sinensis, Pogonatherum paniceum, Cymbopogon sp., Pinus massoniana, Spiranthes siriensis, and Vaccinium wrightii. Occasional to common in understory of pine type; common to abundant in fields and waste places.
