    Description - Glabrous shrubs or small trees, with broad, dark green, opposite petioled leaves, connate .stipules, and small flowers in corymbose panicles. Calyx-tube globose to ovoid, the short limb truncate or 4-5-toothed. Corolla nearly rotate or salverform, its 5-10 narrow lobes valvate, recurved or spreading. Stamens 5-10, borne at the base of the corolla; filaments filiform; anthers basifixed, narrow. Ovary 5-10-celled; ovules solitary in each cavity, pendulous; style stout. Fruit a small drupe, containing 5-10 nutlets. [Greek, very green.] About 6 species, of the West Indies, Florida and Central America. Type species: Erithalis frutieosa L.
