    Species Description - Plants 0.7-1.2 mm wide, glossy greenish brown to black, with conspicuously dark-colored lobules. Leaf lobes (sub)imbricate, plane or convex, ovate to oblong, often falcate, apex plane or deflexed, ventral margin plane, at a sharp angle with keel. Cells in midlobe ca. 10-20 µm, trigones present, usually coalesced and ill- defined, cell walls often darkish pigmented, especially middle lamella; ocelli lacking. Lobules bottle-shaped, very dark-colored, fully inflated, not flattened above, apical (= second) tooth large, 3-6 cells long, usually incurved, visible only by preparation, first tooth reduced. Underleaves distant to contiguous, orbicular, 1.5-3 times stem width, concave, margins recurved or almost plane, insertion line ± straight. Dioicous, rarely autoicous. Gynoecia with 2 sterile innovations. Sun epiphyte in moist lowland forest and scrub, common, 200-500 m, on twigs, branches, and upper portions of trunks in forest canopy and on shrubs, occasionally on living leaves.
