    Description - Plants robust, dark green to brown, ascending to pendant from a creeping, rhizome-like shoot, (bi)pinnately or dichotomously branched. Vegetative branches Frullania-type, sexual branches Lejeunea-type. Stems very robust, with a dark brown, thick-walled cortex surrounding a colourless, thin-walled medulla; epidermis cells 2 times larger than subepidermis cells; ventral merophyte more than 10 cells wide. Leaf lobes convolute when dry, apex pointed, margins toothed or entire. Cells longer than wide, trigones cordate, cuticle smooth; oil bodies homogeneous. Lobules small, never reduced, without or with 1-4 teeth, hyaline papilla proximalental. Underleaves undivided, quadrate to spathulate, apex toothed, insertion line straight or narrowly curved. Gametoecia on very short branches, male bracteoles present throughout, male bracts with hypostatic lobules. Gynoecia without innovations. Perianths with 3 smooth keels. Sporophyte ptychanthoid. Vegetative reproduction by caducous branchlets.
