    Species Description - Plants 2-6 mm wide, green to brownish green, sparsely and irregularly branched, branches exclusively intercalary. Leaves distant to subimbricate, widely spreading, ovate-oblong to rectangular, ca. 1.5-3 times longer than wide, ventral base not ampliate, ventral stem surface clearly visible; leaf margins not bordered, apex rounded, margins toothed all around or only in upper 1/2, usually more strongly so on ventral and apical margins, teeth ca. 10-30 per leaf, on average 3-10 cells long, mostly of 1 row of cells; dorsal base short-decurrent, ventral base not or slightly decurrent, leaf margin at ventral base typically recurved. Cells in midleaf subisodiametrical, ca. 30-50 x 30-40 µm, trigones small, cuticle smooth. Perianths enveloped by bracts.
