Description - Thallus green, grayish green, yellow green, or glaucous, often tinged with purple, red, or violet, forming small rosettes or gregarious patches on naked soil. Dorsal surface of thallus usually not clearly reticulate, pores small or lacking, dorsal epidermis sometimes decayed and then surface with openings. Thallus margins acute or obtuse, sometimes with cilia or with scales projecting beyond margin. Air chambers in 1-3 layers or ± lacking. Ventral scales in 1-2 rows, small or large, when large sometimes projecting beyond thallus margin, oil cells lacking. Spores 50-200 µm in diameter, variously ornamented; trilete scar more or less distinct.
