Species Description - Plants small to medium-sized, soft to ± stiff, in dull, mostly pale yellowish green, often large, epiphytic colonies; stems to ca. 7 cm long, but often only ca. 3 cm, freely but irregularly branched, the branches simple to irregularly pinnate, to ca. 3 cm long, but mostly ca. 1 cm long, sometimes flagellate-attenuate, complanate-foliate. Branch and stem leaves differentiated, stem leaves ± erect-spreading, not complanate, ± crispate when dry, flat when moist, ovate-ligulate, obtuse or rarely broadly acute, ± decurrent, ca. 1-1.25 x 0.5 mm; margins crenulate-serrulate at apex, distantly serrulate below, inflexed on one side below; costa ending (1/2)3/4 the leaf length; cells hexag¬onal, 12-25 x 6-9 µm, firm-walled, shorter above the costa, somewhat longer, ± rectangular and ± porose toward the insertion; alar cells scarcely differentiated but usually with a few short-rectangular cells in basal angles; branch leaves complanate, wide-spreading, ± crispate when dry, flat when moist, asymmetric, broadly oblong, broadly rounded to truncate, occasionally ± retuse or broadly apiculate, narrowly decurrent, not at all auriculate, 1.1-1.7 x 0.6-0.8 mm; margins crenulate-serrulate at apex, distantly serrulate below, inflexed on one side below; costa single, ending ca. 3/4 the leaf length; cells hexagonal to rhombic, 10-25 x 5-9 µm, smooth, firm-walled, not at all porose, shorter in a broad band across the leaf apex, more elongate toward the insertion and marginally on inflexed side, at extreme insertion long-rectangular, thick-walled, and porose. Synoicous. Perichaetial ramenta longer than the perichaetial leaves and emerging from them, extending about half way up capsules, rarely to operculum, loriform, ca. 2 mm long. Setae ca. 0.2 mm long; capsules emergent to short-exserted, 1-1.5 mm long. Calyptrae cucullate.

  • Distribution

In non-flooded moist forests, locally rare, ca. 200 m, on bases of shrubs and treelets.
