Species Description - Plants medium-sized, in lustrous, pale to dark or yellowish green, lax tufts; primary stems short, densely tomentose, with erect, mostly simple branches, to ca. 6 cm long, weakly or not complanate-foliate. Leaves mostly contorted when dry, ± flat when moist, crowded below, distant above, narrowly oblong, oblong ovate, or obovate, abruptly short-acuminate to apiculate, the apex often pinched and twisted, 2.5-3.2 x 1.5-1.8 mm; margins serrate to serrulate in upper 2/3-3/4, plane, weakly to distinctly bordered by 1-2 rows of elongate, narrow cells; costa ending 1/3-1/2 the leaf length; cells rhomboidal to hexagonal, 60-100 x 15-35 pm, often thick-walled and porose, becoming oblong to rectangular and colored across the insertion in 1-3 rows. Asexual propagula clustered in leaf axils, 10-15-celled. Dioicous. Setae smooth or roughened above, 0.25-0.3 cm long; capsules 2.5-3 mm long. Calyptrae sparsely hairy.

Distribution
In non-flooded moist forests and montane forests, relatively common, 200-700 m, typically on twigs, less often on tree trunks and old wood.
