    Species Description - Plants medium-sized, mostly reddish brown, occasionally yellow- to olive-green; stems to ca. 8 cm long, branches 0.5-1 cm tall. Leaves spirally twisted when dry, oblong-lanceolate, obtuse-mucronate, strongly (or slightly) rugose above, rugose-plicate below, 1-1.5 x 0.5-0.6 mm; margins entire, plane above, plane to narrowly recurved below; costa short-excurrent; cells rounded-hexagonal to oval, ca. 12 µm in diameter, smooth, sometimes ± elongate in a single row juxta- costally; basal cells long-rectangular, 20-30 x 1.5-3 µm, thick- walled, porose, smooth or prorulose. Setae 0.2-0.4 cm long; capsules 1.5-2 mm long, short-cylindric, ± furrowed; peristome double, exos- tome teeth lanceolate, cross-striate; endostome of short segments. Calyptrae naked.
