Species Description - Plants small to medium-sized, 0.5-1.5 cm tall, dark green, in mostly thin turfs. Leaves not much contorted when dry, ligulate to lanceolate from a slightly expanded base, 3-6 x ca. 0.8 mm; margins thickened, ca. 4-5-stratose, coarsely toothed above; costa subpercurrent to percurrent, excurrent in gemmiferous leaves; cells isodiametric, 4-5 µm in diameter, smooth or finely papillose abaxially, bulging papillose adaxially; teniolae very conspicuous, ending below midleaf; cancellinae almost filling leaf base, meeting costa at acute angles, cells smooth on both surfaces. Asexual reproduction by gemmae; gemmiferous leaves often abruptly constricted at apex; gemmae only on adaxial surface of costa. Setae 4-5 mm long; capsules 2-2.5 mm long.

Distribution
In non-flooded moist forests, often along streams, common, 300-400 m, often on rock, sometimes on bases of trees.
