Discussion
This taxon is related to R. firmula (Mart.) Wedd., from which it differs in the placement of the calycine glands below the sinus of the lobes and occurring in pairs or as 1-3, in the longer calyx and corolla lobes, and longer corolla tube. From R. longifolia Benth. ex Standi, it differs in the glabrous style, the shape and size of the calyx lobes, and in the placement of the glands halfway between the sinus and base of the calyx tube. Some of the collections cited (Maguire, Wurdack & Bunting 37691, Medina 509, and Williams 14972) under R. wurdackii have smaller and/or narrower leaves than the type collection, and also show differences in glabrity of leaves, length of calyx lobes, and number of glands between the base of the calyx lobe sinus and the base of the calyx tube. There are also differences observable in the length of the peduncle and number of lateral nerves among these collections. Moreover, the fruits of the Vogel 325 and Maguire & Politi 27857 collections exhibit differences in size of seeds and kind of pubescence from those found in the type collection and other paratypes cited, and may prove, upon more intensive collecting throughout the region, to represent diverse taxa or varieties of the same taxon.
