Species Description - Solitary, heavily armed palms; stem often columnar; crown globose with many pinnate leaves, pinnae glaucous underneath, usually without marginal aciculae. Inflorescences erect with simple sidebranches, rachillas with a few pistillate flowers in the basal part and numerous congested staminate flowers in the terminal part; fruit globose, glabrescent setulose, with an osseous endocarp.

Type. A. aculeata (Jacquin) Lodd. ex Martius.
Acrocomia is a poorly known genus represented in the Guianas by but one species occurring from sea level to about 1200 m elevation in the Andes.
