Discussion
Type. Trail 962-963 (CLXXII), Brazil, Amazonas, Rio Tocantins (F, K).
Geonoma leptospadix is at once distinguished by the long slender pendulous inflorescences. Apart from the Guianas it is also known from northern Brazil, eastern Colombia, and northeastern Peru. A specimen collected in Suriname, Upper Saramacca River, Maguire 24095 (NY), was described as G. saramaccana Bailey but is identical with Trail’s original collection.
