Species Description - Small tree, young branches glabrous. Leaves imparipinnate with 5-7 pairs of leaflets, rhachis 35-55 cm long, glabrous, base of petiole thick and swollen; leaflets 9-18 cm long, 3.5-4.5 cm broad, oblong-lanceolate, apex with finely pointed caudate acumen 15-30 mm long, base rounded to cuneate, often unequal, chartaceous, glabrous on both surfaces; midrib prominent below, impressed above, glabrous; primary veins 8-10 pairs, prominent below impressed above, arcuate and anastomosing close to margin; petioles 4-5 mm long, thick and rugose. Inflorescence fasciculate spiciform, borne on woody stem, rhachis not exceeding 1 cm long, ferrugineous tomentose when young becoming puberulous with age, hairs multicellular. Flowers 5 mm long; sepals acute 2 mm long, exterior tomentose, interior glabrous, petals 3 mm long, glabrous, punctate; filaments glabrous, connate at base for only 0.5 mm; carpel tomentose; stigma glabrous, peltate. Follicles 2.5 cm long, 1.1 cm broad, base distinctly stipitate, stipe 4 mm long, oblique apex mucronate, with an arcuate ventral suture; pericarp coriaceous, exterior puberulous when young soon becoming glabrous, striate, interior glabrous. Discussion
Schellenberg apparently did not see material of this species for his monograph, and was unable to describe it fully. C. fasciculatus has never been fully described. Since excellent recently collected material now exists, this species can now be better defined.
In addition to the type (Martin s.n. fr. P) the following material may be referred to this species
Note: This species differs from C. pachyneurus in the smaller, oblong-lanceolate leaflets, the longer rhachis of the leaves, the fruit with a thin distinct stipe, and the aril with a crenulate margin. It differs from C. erianthus Benth. ex Bak. in the larger more lanceolate leaflets with impressed venation, the stipitate fruit, the aril with a crenulate margin, and the fasciculate inflorescence with a very short rhachis.
