    Species Description - Rhizomes ascending, terrestrial, 4 -5 mm diam., scaly particularly at the apices with narrow, black or faintly bicolorous scales; fronds few, caespitose, spreading, to 20 cm long; stipes and rhachises black, shining, with a few minute hairs, conspicuously green- to tan-winged, the wings almost scarious; blades simply pinnate, nearly linear, attenuate at base and apex; rhachises elongate, radicant wtih proliferous apical buds; pinnae 15-45 opposite pairs, crenate or subentire, 6 mm long, 2 mm wide, oblong, with a superior auricle or lobe and rounded apex, the lower pinnae shorter, hastate; sori medial, 4-6 pairs, confluent at maturity; indusia translucent tan, sometimes rather erose.

    This species is easily distinguished from its relatives in the Asplenium monanthes group by its small size.
