    Species Description - Tree. Leaves coriaceous, shining, oblong, subacute at apex, obtuse at base, 15-25 cm long, 7- 12.5 cm wide, prominently subacutely serrulate (average 5 teeth per cm), lateral and intermediate nerves below slender and finely impressed, the tertiary venation with subparallel elongate pat tems of reticulation somewhat finer than the lateral and intermediate nervation; petioles 1-2 cm long. Inflorescence paniculate, 18-20 cm long, 12-13 cm broad with 5-6 closely flowered axes 5-13 cm long and 1-5 mm distant. Sepals oblong, subobtuse, 5-6 mm long, 3 mm wide. Petals spatulate, 6-7 mm long, 5-6 mm wide. Style 4 m m long. Gynophore (in fruit) globose. Drupe obovate-oblong, 7 mm long, 5 mm wide.

    Distribution and Ecology - Known from the Territorio Federal Amazonas, Venezuela and the Brazilian states of Amazonas, Para, and Acre {Krukoff 5611, 5771, near mouth of Rio Macaua). Venezuelan and Brazilian materials identified as O. coccinea diflfer in having the leaves minutely and inconspicuously crenulate, larger petals (11-13 X 8-10 mm ) , which are broadly suborbicular, longer sepals (8-10 mm ) , and longer styles (7-9 m m ) . These diflferences are shown by the following specimens.
