    Species Description - Plants 0.2-2 m tall, erect, much branched. Glandular trichomes of the vegetative parts 60-140(-200) µ long; nonglandular hairs with 1-2(-3) basal cells. Stems not winged. Leaves petiolate or subsessile; petioles 1.5-4(-5.2) mm long; blades 2.2-11 cm long, 0.6-2.6(-3.3) cm wide, hnear-lanceolate to lanceolate, rarely elliptical, acute or sometimes short-acuminate at the apex, attenuate at the base; midrib and sometimes the nerves prominent beneath. Inflorescence usually a loose corymb or a compound panicle, the heads rarely sohtary; peduncles (0.2-)0.5-4.7(-5.4) cm long, often somewhat inflated below the head. Phyllaries 8-10(-12), 8-14(-18) mm long, 1.2-2.3(-3.2) mm wide, subulate and keeled, or linear with an acute apex and convex; midrib and sometimes the nerves prominent. Receptacle 2-3.5 mm wide, the hairs up to 1.7 mm long. Corolla: tube of the outer flowers 6.5-9(-11) mm long, 0.4-0.6 mm wide at the base, 1.1-1.4 mm wide at the mouth; outer lip (4.2-)5-8 mm long, (1.5-)2-3.4 mm wide, spreading; lobes of the inner lip (3.2-)4.3-5.5(-6.5) mm long, 0.4-0.6 mm wide at the base; inner flowers similar but smaller: outer lip (3.4-)4-5.9 mm long, 1.3-2.5 mm wide. Filaments (1.5-)2-2.8 mm long. Anthers (5.3-)6.1-7.7(-8.5) mm long: appendages (1.5-)2.1-2.7 mm long, thecae 2.3-3.6(-4.2) mm long, tails 1.5-2.5 mm long. Style 7.5-12 mm long below the bifurcation, the branches (1.1-) 1.6-2.6 mm long. Achenes 6-10.5 mm long, 0.5-0.9 mm wide, covered with mucilage-releasing double hairs and small glandular trichomes 40-50 µ long, the beak (0.8-)1.2-1.9(-2.4) mm long; embryo (3.5-)4.5-5.3 mm long, 0.4-0.8 mm wide below the cotyledons, the cotyledons (1.5-)2-3.1 mm long. Pappus 7.5-12 mm long, tawny.
