Distribution and Ecology - BRAZIL. Amazonas: basin of Rio Negro, Maturaca on Rio Cauaburi, R. E. Schultes 24577 (INPA).

  • Discussion

Related to A. pahni, A. splendida, and A. rufescens.

The specimen consists of a single enormous leaf, the suborbieular blade 34 cm diam, borne on a densely silky-tomentose-pilosulous petiole nearly as long. The upper face of the chartaceous blade is oUvaceous, dull, with shallowly impressed secondary and tertiary venation, glabrous except along the major nerves; the lower face is of a striking golden-green color when dry, elaborately net-veined, thinly setulose along the veins but glabrous between them. The ultimate reticulation of areoles ±0.1 m m diam is seen from above as a faintly raised mesh, below as sharply raised but not forming alveolate pockets.

    Presumably undescribed, but inflorescences needed.
