Discussion
Psychotria chondroloma Standley, Field Mus. Publ. Bot. 7: 440. 1931.
Type. British Guiana, Robert Schomburgk 2085.
A study of the type specimens of P. schomburgkii and P. chondroloma shows the two taxa to be conspecific in every detail with the minor difference that in the holotype of P. chondroloma (Tate 726) the lateral nerves of the leaf-blades are less prominently connected by tertiary transverse veinlets, and the tertiary veinlets are less prominent beneath than in P. schomburgkii. I regard this as an inconsequential difference which more abundantly collected material will doubtless indicate to be the case. Actually, the paratype of P. chondroloma, represented by Tate 700, has the tertiary venation more like that of .P. schomburgkii, and shows more prominulous nerves and transverse venation than in the holotype collection.
Although Standley states in the original description of P. chondroloma that the corolla is not barbate in the throat, an examination of the type specimen shows that there is a definite hirsutulous pubescence in the throat.
