Genus Description - Well-defined genus, with latex, and petiolar glands. Inflorescence a stiff fleshy, cymule-bearing spike, stamens 2, male sepals connate. By this latter character it differs from its paleotropic counterpart, Excoecaria.
Distribution and Ecology - All Guayana species are confined to the east, to the Guianas and Bolivar, Venezuela.
