Distribution and Ecology - Distribution. A tree 5-30 m tall. Widely distributed in the Amazon basin from Peru to near its mouth, and extending northwards into the Orinoco basin in Venezuela and Colombia. Most records are from periodically inundated forests or the banks of rivers. BRAZIL. Amazonas, above Tapurucuara (Santa Isabel) on Rio Negro, 1 Nov 1965, Maguire et al 60061. VENEZUELA. Territorio Amazonas, tree 5 m high, fruiting only, frequent along Yapacana cano from laguna to mouth, alt 125 m, 20 Mar 1953, Maguire et al 34605 (FHO, NY); small tree, fruit green, 4(-5)-seeded, Lago Paciba, Rio Paciba, Rio Casiquiare, 130 m alt, 3 Apr 1953, Maguire et al 34818 (FHO, NY); COLOMBIA. Vaupes, tree 6 m, buds white, along Rio Guainia for 1 km above Puerto Colombia (opposite Maroa), 130 m alt, 13 Oct 1957, Maguire et al 41870 (FHO, NY).
