Genus Description - Vines, twining or prostrate herbs or shrubs, rarely erect, often stellate pubescent. Flowers in axillary, usually peduncled cymes or capitate or solitary; bracteate if capitate. Sepals 5, equal or unequal with the 2 outer sometimes larger. Corollas funnelform or more often campanulate or rotate. Stamens and styles included. Ovary 2-locular, 4-ovulate; styles simple, filiform; stigmas 2, ellipsoid to oblong. Capsules globose, 2-locular, often with more than 4 valves, 4-seeded.
