Genus Description - Annual or perennial herbs with erect, prostrate or twining stems. Leaves variable but often hastate or sagittate, varying to linear. Flowers axillary in one- to few-flowered cymes or dense heads. Sepals 5, equal or subequal, obtuse to acute. Corollas campanulate or funnelform, almost entire. Stamens and styles included. Ovary 2-locular, 4-ovuled; styles simple, filiform; stigmas 2, filiform. Capsules 2-locular, usually 4-valved. Seeds mostly glabrous, often sculptured, usually four.
